So I'm looking at AICN this morning and see an announcement that broke in The Hollywood Reporter about an upcoming comic book named "Blood on the Tracks", concerning a vampire menacing the NYC subway system.
That loud sound you just heard was the girding of my loins (I'm sorry, I'm just trying to find a polite way to say I thought I was going to poop my pants).
Because one of my finished scripts, Underground, frankly the one complete script that I think measures best whatever amount of talent I have to offer right now, is a horror/comedy about a vampire menacing the NYC subway system. As an amateur screenwriter, I had to get the vampire script out of my system, just like most of the rest of you.
(Well, okay, I wrote two vampire scripts, my very first was The Old Guard, about old movie stars that owe their longevity to being vampires.)
What I wanted to do with Underground was combine a NYC comedy with elements of horror and some spy-movie touches as well, I figured that would make an interesting fit and I think I pulled it off (of course now I want to print out and re-read, thanks for reminding me to look at a page rather than a monitor, Scott). I pictured it through rewrites as directed by a Die Hard-level John McTiernan (as opposed to a Rollerball-era John McTiernan), a widescreen high-gloss thrill ride that checks out peripheral characters to give a global picture of how the central story affects everyone else.
I hadn't really expected to shop this around as more than a sample, but with this very similar project now being developed, should I try to sell it? Or is it sunk?

Depends how similar they are, probably. Hard to say.
The only way to know for sure is to have someone read both, but that's not going to happen, their script may not even have a page one yet. Mine's ready to go, maybe that would be a plus. I'd submitted this to Nicholl and Austin and got the thumbs-down, but I also had run this through Zoetrope and got some good notes and reviews (and I don't even have a fanbase over there like the guys who normally get good reviews).
I'd just hate to miss the boat, even if I didn't expect to be boating just yet.
